One of the most problematic developments in Birmingham city centre (featured on New Homes From Hell 2009) is looking towards the future as the end gets ever closer. The development had various problems throughout its lengthy development period, the largest one being the recession causing one of the main partners (David Mclean) to go bankrupt.
The completion of the second block of the development (the Hive) was under massive threat due to the David McLean group going into administration. Now just over four whole years later the second block has been completed.
The Mass House is a mixed development for public use, commerce and residential purposes.

Development in that area is not over yet
The two buildings that have taken around 6 years to be erected are to be surrounded by further buildings that are going to be erected on the car parks that exist very close to the current Mass House development.
There are also plans to re-generate the small park located near the mass house and take the extensive development plans down towards Curzon Street.
All of this is part of the “Big City Plan“. The big city plan is a development plan which aims to increase the size of Birmingham city centre by 25%. It is going to create in total 5,000 new homes and 50,000 new jobs.
The time scale for this is a planned 20 years.
